Northwest Open Space Staging Area
In Spring 2011, Foundation volunteers created a new multi-use staging area by fencing and grading a 2.5-acre parcel of the northwest open space that was acquired with the 1990 bond proceeds. The site has been virtually unusable for the past 20 years. Thanks to the Foundation's efforts, the site now has fencing, irrigation, two historical replica water troughs, picnic tables, hitching posts, dog waste stations, trash receptacles, a new entrance and a monument sign welcoming visitors.
Not only was all of the work done by our wonderful volunteers, all of these amenities were paid for by the generous contributions of our Open Space Foundation members. The site is now open daily for day-use. Hikers, mountain bikers, equestrians, dog lovers and picnickers will love this significantly upgraded gateway to the trails in the Northwest part of town. All improvements were donated to the city by the Foundation in January 2012.
